What is a Salwar Kameez? A Traditional Indian Outfit

The Salwar Kameez or shalwar kameez is a beautiful Indian Dress ensemble worn by women in the Indian subcontinent. The salwar kameez is a combination of 3 pieces – the salwar / shalwar or pant, the kameez or shirt and the dupatta or scarf.

The kameez or shirt may be long or short, loose & flowing or body-hugging; styles are only limited by the imagination of the tailor or designer. The salwar is typically a loose, flowy pant tapered at the ankles – it usually has a drawstring waistband. The dupatta (scarf) is a length of cloth meant to be draped over the shoulders, head or neck. The Indian shalwar kameez is available in a variety of fabrics –
